The app does not see my hearing aids
Work through these in order:
- Are the hearing aids on and out of the charger? In the charger they transmit nothing.
- Is Bluetooth on? Check Control Centre.
- Did you allow the app to use Bluetooth? Settings → earBeacon → Bluetooth.
- Pull the home screen down. That starts a fresh search.
- Try getting closer. Indoor range is roughly ten metres and walls shorten it.
If the hearing aids do not appear during setup either, tap Show all devices. Sometimes a hearing aid does not advertise a name the app recognises.
The meter jumps around or reads nonsense
That is the nature of radio, not a bug. A human body attenuates Bluetooth by ten to twenty decibels, so turning your back drops the reading as if you had stepped back several metres.
Calibration helps. On the home screen each hearing aid has a Calibrate button. Place the hearing aid directly on the phone and hold still for five seconds. The app learns how strongly that particular unit transmits.
Calibrate both hearing aids separately. Differences between left and right can be large — on the test pair it was thirteen decibels.
Where is the battery level?
Hearing aids do not expose it to third-party apps over Bluetooth, and iOS offers no public API for it. You will find it in Settings → Accessibility → Hearing Devices, in Control Centre under the ear icon, or in the Batteries widget.
Why is there no direction arrow like an AirTag?
The AirTag arrow works thanks to a UWB chip, which must be present in both devices. Your iPhone has one; hearing aids do not. Bluetooth on its own cannot determine direction.
So there is only one way to find the direction: move, and watch whether the signal grows.
The hearing aid is out of range. Now what?
Open the search screen — at the top is the last place where the hearing aid was connected to your phone, with a link to Maps. It is not the location of the hearing aid, but the place where you last had it with you. Go back there and search again.
How do I select different hearing aids?
The initial setup can be run again. Write to me and I will send instructions for your version of the app.
Reporting a bug
